Public Diplomacy is the art of using strategic communication to promote policies, interests, and values by directly engaging, informing, and influencing the publics of other nations. The goal is to "win hearts and minds" in order to achieve specific goals. A group of Harvard professors formed The Public Diplomacy Collaborative to strengthen the practice of public diplomacy through research and network building, especially between the public and private sectors.

WHAT:   The Role of Public Diplomacy in International Business

WHEN :   Monday 28th March 2011, at 6pm

WHERE : Waltham MA

WHO:      Gloria Cabe – Senior Advisor at the Global Partnership Initiative, U.S. Department of State (Washington DC)

Corporations with extensive overseas investments understand the need to maintain public go! od will both on the ground in their countries of operation and back home with the voting public. These corporations understand the importance of communication tools for combating anti-Western sentiment, resolving conflicts, and building long-term goodwill through engagement.

The U.S. State Department’s Global Partnership Initiative develops model partnerships based on the Secretary of State’s priorities, while serving as:
 • A convener, bringing together people from across regions and sectors to work on issues of common interest.
 • A catalyst, launching new projects, actively seeking new solutions, and providing training and tools.
 • A collaborator, working closely with partners to avoid duplication, learn lessons, and maximize impact.

The discussion will delve on the ever more complex and prominent overlap between International Business and Foreign Affairs.
